OVERVIEW

The Bio-Informatics focus area concentrates on developing techniques that use computational intelligence to solve highly complex biological problems.

Application areas currently under investigation include protein and RNA structure computation, genome sequence alignment, as well as clustering methods for protein and DNA sequences.

 Title:

Sequence Alignment using Particle Swarm Optimisation

 Abstract:

Sequencing of the human genome is said to be the greatest achievement in the scientific history. In this research, an empirical analysis will be conducted on algorithms such as different PSO's and Co-evolution in order to observe how these can be used to solve this rather difficult optimization problem. Better degree of success would be achieved with this new ability to align a number of DNA strings. The problem will consist of finding the optimal positions for the four deoxyribonucleotides markers (Adenine, Cytosine, Thymine, Guanine) in the string.
