OVERVIEW

The focus of this research area is on the development of evolutionary algorithms, specifically new differential evolution algorithms, with application to dynamic environments, and coevolution. Competitive coevolution strategies in combination with particle swarm optimizers are investigated for training strategists from zero knowledge.

Applications are to solve optimization problems, game playing, data mining, and financial trading.

 A Genetic Approach to Normalising Databases

 Abstract:

Programmatically normalizing databases has been done before, in a long highly complex procedural manner. Research into this area has as slowed somewhat since those first few normalisation algorithms were developed way back. My dissertation seeks to revive research by proposing a new and unique technique to normalising relational databases. Using Genetic Programming, each non-normalised relation is broken down into several normalised relations. Being a Genetic Program, the resulting relation schema is represented as a program tree, which when evaluated will demonstrate the level of normalization. Naturally, I am looking for the best relation schema.
