 Title:

 Not Finalised

 Abstract:

The application of Computational Intelligence to the field of biology and biochemistry presents extremely useful and interesting applications, for example structure prediction of proteins in real-world application domains. These domains in Bioinformatics ranges from the Pharmaceutical- to the Food-industry. By expanding knowledge of the manner in which biological processes work and by applying the computational power of computer systems, a researcher in this area of research could subsequently model, analyse and interpret biological organisms' behaviour and interactions in a more time and cost effective way than expensive and time-consuming laboratory experiments. The area of research is vast and there is much scope for new and innovative development. Proper and cost-effective health care and nutrition are two of the national priorities in South Africa. Newly researched methods and techniques in applying Computational Intelligence to the domains of these priorities could invariably lead to the designing of better (and probably more cost-effective) medicine, cures of diseases and more nutrient rich foods. This will be to the advantage to the population as a whole.

 Title:

 Protein Tertiary Structure Visualisation

 Abstract:

Protein structure visualisation plays a key part in broadening our understanding of the manner in which proteins function. The needs of biologists, such as structural analysis, can be satisfied by deploying computer graphical techniques to aid in the representation schemes necessary. The report focuses particularly on the representation of the tertiary structures of protein macromolecules by means of a personal computer.
